Become a BC Student in 5 Steps

We will walk you through the steps to apply all the way through registration. Following these steps will have you well on your way to graduation!

Concurrent Enrollment and Dual Enrollment Students – High school students taking Bakersfield College courses through dual or concurrent enrollment need approval from their parent, high school, and the college. To obtain approval, students must follow the Early College - How to Enroll Steps each semester.

Step 1: Apply To BC

Before you can register for class, you must complete a CCCApply college application for Bakersfield College. A link to the application is below this important information including preparing the documents you will need and step-by-step instructions.

Application Steps

1. Create a CCCApply account with with your valid email address or mobile phone number.
2. (New) CCCApply ID.me Verification: Starting February 2, 2024, CCCApply will integrate identity verification through ID.me. ID.me will help protect student identities and prevent fraudulent students from taking spots in BC classes.

Verify Your Identity with ID.me

Choosing "Verify Later" or opting out of ID.me could delay the verification process up to 4 weeks. Speed up your enrollment, verify your identity with ID.me.

• No valid identity documentation from country of origin
• No permanent address (housing insecure/homeless)
• No Internet access or a smartphone
• Justice Involved (incarcerated, foster youth, juvenile detention)
• Minors (Under the age of 18)

For students unable to use ID.me, connect with the 24/7 student support live chat to verify your identity. For assistance with ID.me, please contact the helpdesk at CCCHelp.info.

Acceptable documents for identity verification (may require more than one of the following):

• Government-issued ID such as a current Driver’s License or State ID card
• Passport or Passport Card
• U.S. Permanent Resident Card
• Employment Authorization Document

Once you Create your College Account (step 6 above), you will receive either a notification that includes your assigned BC Student ID number and your BC email account or a notification of a Delayed application. If your account is Delayed, you will receive an email within 1-3 business days, with information on your next steps. We will send the email to the address you provided in the application. Check your spam or junk folder to ensure that you receive the email.

About CCCApply ID.me Verification

Prepare to Apply

Required for the application:

• Your Full Name
• Mailing Address
• Social Security Number (SSN)/ ITIN/ Tax ID*

Helpful documents, but not required to complete the application:

• High School Transcripts (if you have them)
• Last English and Math classes completed and grade
• Information about your parents (optional demographic information like highest level of education)

*If you do not have a SSN, ITIN or Tax ID, visit or call Admission & Records (661) 395-4301 to obtain a "B" Number.

Step 2: Apply for Financial Aid

Financial Aid Step 1: Apply

Note: You must apply EVERY year for financial aid. Mark your calendar to re-apply for Financial Aid ASAP after October 1st every year. The first deadline for Cal Grant consideration is March 2nd every year.

U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or eligible non-citizens with a valid Social Security number:
Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

1. Log in to InsideBC. Your user ID is @00xxxxx and if it is your first time logging in, your password is your six-digit birthday (MMDDYY).
2. Select Financial Aid.
3. Select Financial Aid Status.
4. Select the Award Year from the drop-down menu and Submit.
5. Review your Academic Progress standing and Unsatisfied Requirements
   • Complete all required items four weeks or more before the start of the semester to avoid delays. If you were selected for verification, get more information on verification process.
   • If you need help, contact Financial Aid.

Complete all required items two weeks or more before the start of the semester to avoid delays. If you were selected for verification, get more information on the verification process.

Step 3: Attend Orientation

After you receive your student ID (@00xxxxx), complete the Online Orientation. At orientation you will learn about our academic majors and degrees, policies, important academic dates, and tips on how to be a successful student.

Step 4: Create Your Comprehensive Student Education Plan

Achieve your educational goals in less time with a Comprehensive Student Education Plan (CSEP). Call (661) 395-4421 or email counseling@bakersfieldcollege.edu from your BC email to schedule an individual appointment with a Counselor. Your CSEP will help you determine the classes to register for this semester.

Determining Your Classes

Your high school GPA and coursework helps determine what level to start at for English, Reading, and Math classes, the foundation for all other classes here at BC. Your counselor will assist you with determining where start during your appointment to create a Comprehensive Student Education Plan.

If you did not complete at least 11th grade in a U.S. high school, graduated from a non-U.S. high school, or you are an international student, you will complete the Guided Self-Placement process with your counselor.

At Your Counseling Appointment

You will need to bring:

• High school students/recent high school graduates: your high school transcripts
• If you attended another university or college, an unofficial copy of your transcripts
• Plan to take notes
• Bring your questions!

Concurrent Enrollment

High school students wishing to enroll while still attending high school must submit a Concurrent Enrollment Form.

Veterans

Meet with the Veterans Advisor to complete a Student Education Plan and options specific to your status as a veteran or dependent of a veteran.

Step 5: Register for Classes

Within 1-3 Business days of your application (Step 1), we will send your registration date. You will register for classes from your Student Education Plan (Step 4) through the student portal, InsideBC.

For your first semester of registration, you will receive earlier appointments if you have completed the enrollment steps.

10-Day Payment Deadline

You have 10 days from the date you register for a class to pay your tuition bill in full or you may be dropped for non-payment.

You may pay your bill online through InsideBC or at the Business Office. How to make your payment online.
